The next version (1.1) of the Pin Pin app will include both male and female recordings of the Chinese pin yin chart. As soon as the new version is approved by Apple, you will be able to quickly switch between the two sound sets using the new menu on the top right of the screen.

Chinese pin yin with male and female recordings
When I built the Pin Pin app, I discovered it was actually quite difficult find a male speaker with clear, standard Mandarin Chinese pronunciation. So, I released the app with a single, female voice set until I could finally find a good, male candidate to do all of the Chinese pin yin recordings that met my quality standard.
Since the app has been released, I’ve gotten several requests for male recordings of all of the Chinese pin yin sounds, so I know a lot of users have been waiting for this update. To those users: I apologize for the wait! The new version should be available in just a few days!
Note that the male voice set will be available as an in-app purchase in Pin Pin Free. Pin Pin Complete will include the male voice set at no additional cost.
Aside from this cool new feature and a few bug fixes, I’ve also given the app some design-love and made the navigation flow a bit more natural.
I hope you enjoy the new version Check back soon as I will be posting some more exciting updates soon! Also, if you have any requests, please let me know! I am committed to making Pin Pin the most comprehensive way to learn pin yin on the iPhone 🙂
